New Zealand - Otago

Welcome to Dunedin and Otago.

Although Dunedin was once the commercial centre of New Zealand thanks to the Otago gold rush of the 1860s, this picturesque harbourside city is today better known for its Scottish influences and nearby haven for wildlife.

Dunedin, New Zealand. And with many of its early buildings still intact, it makes an appealing city to explore and base yourself.

Visit a pub where you can hear a live band in the unique "Dunedin Sound" tradition. Or if it's scenery you prefer, one of the world's great train trips, the Taieri Gorge Railway, will take you past rugged, spectacular mountains.

Allow enough time to see the stunning wall tiles and mosaic floor of the Dunedin station's foyer before you depart. Don't miss the Otago Peninsula where you can see Royal Albatross at the world's only mainland colony.
